Above and Beyond
I was recently flying with my son, who uses an electric wheelchair, and requires it for use on layovers as it has a custom seat. Our flight was delayed, which cut our ground time on our layover significantly, and wasn’t going to give my son enough time to get his chair and drive to the departure gate to transfer to the next flight.
While we were still airborne, I spoke to the Flight Attendants and explained our situation. They and the Pilot then coordinated with the Team in DEN to arrange, with my son’s approval, for his wheelchair to go directly from the inbound aircraft to the outbound aircraft. They also arranged for an airport chair to be ready to move my son from gate to gate. Once my son was in the airport chair, Corey and Nik pushed the wheelchair and helped me carry the bags from gate to gate. Once we got to the departure gate, the Agents stopped boarding so we could get on the plane and into seats the Crew had reserved for us. The Southwest Team really went above and beyond to make sure we got home and that my son’s wheelchair also made it home.
